In der über 18 Millionen teuren Neuverfilmung des Klassikers Moby Dick, wird Kapitän Ahab diesmal von William Hurt gespielt. Die Rolle des 1. Offizier übernimmt Ethan Hawke. Die Regie führt Mike Barker, der schon zuvor den Seewolf verfilmt hat. An seiner Seite Richard Mitchell, der auch schon die Musik zum Seewolf schrieb (Alhambra 8990). Die maritime Filmmusik von über 70 Minuten wurde mit dem Chaigley Symphony Orchestra and Choir eingespielt.
